Oriol Pujol (the son of former President Jordi Pujol) will accept two and a half years in prison for the ITV (MOT) case

Agreement closed between Oriol Pujol and the Prosecutor's Office.

The son of the former Catalan president who extended the political saga in Convergència has accepted a sentence of two and a half years in prison that entails, in principle, that his wife be released from prison. He and five other defendants will ratify the agreement with the Public Prosecutor's Office in the framework of the ITV (MOT) case on July 24 before the Audiencia (Court) of Barcelona: they will recognize that they mediated in the fixing of station assignments in favor of friendly paying entrepreneurs.

According to the statement of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia, the Office of the Jury of the Hearing of Barcelona has convened the parties at 10H. Ratified the conformity with the Office of the Prosecutor with the complete bench of the accused, the magistrates will issue judgment based on said pact and it will be executory.

Oriol Pujol and the rest of those involved in the ITV (MOT) case thus will avoid the trial with a popular jury at the Audiencia de Barcelona. There is also his wife Anna Vidal, who was number two of the Diputación, Josep Tous, and businessmen Sergi Pastor, Ricard Puignou and Sergi Alsina. They assume crimes of influence peddling, bribery and falsehood.

In relation to Vidal, he accepts a 15-month prison sentence, which can be replaced by a fine of 83,000 euros. Tous, five substitutable months for 22,500; Pastor and Puignou, five months replaceable by 60,000; and Alsina two years in jail.

Case of the ITV (MOT)

As Libertad Digital advanced, he will be the second of former President Pujol who stepped into prison, after his elder brother Jordi Pujol Ferrusola remained in custody as the main suspect in the family money laundering network. The Prosecutor's Office initially requested five years in prison for Oriol, but lowered it to two and a half years after his admission of crimes of bribery, falsification of documents and influence peddling with the payment of illegal commissions in the ITV (MOT) case.

Husband and wife acknowledge that they took bites from entrepreneurs to whom, through their political influence, they helped obtain ITV (MOT) station awards.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office concluded a year ago that Oriol Pujol, thanks to his status as a deputy for Convergence and Union in the Catalan Parliament, used his political influence to favor entrepreneurs in the ITV (MOT) sector. He also ruled that the son of the former president charged commissions for those benefits of one of them, a personal friend, who camouflaged the payments with false concepts such as advisory work on the politician's wife that never took place.

The businessmen who participated in the plot sheltered by Oriol Pujol paid for the intervention of the politician, "intense, decisive and clearly beneficial for those involved thanks to the relevant political positions he held," the Public Prosecutor explained in his report. He added that "thanks to the fundamental work of the defendant Pujol Ferrusola, the merchant operation for which the company of the defendant Sergi Alsina Jiménez was hired -among others-, had an expected success"

The maneuvers for the benefit of Sergi Alsina were not confined to the sector of the Technical Inspections of Vehicles, in this area he collaborated with other entrepreneurs. The relationship of the owners of establishments to pass the ITV (MOT) with Oriol Pujol began in 2010 based on the data of the Office of the Prosecutor.

The son of former President Jordi Pujol suggested that year to the Catalan government to hire the entrepreneur linked to the Josep Tous plot to design the territorial plan of the ITV stations. According to Anticorruption, that decision hid the will of the project to favor the private interests of another accused businessman, Ricard Puignou, in the negotiation about the stations.
