"Lliures" (the new-born liberal formation) calls "PSC" and "Units" to form a "Catalan front"

Teixidó considers possible to beat the independence movement at the polls.

The need to rebuild Catalanism, understood as a meeting place for different sensibilities and proposals for regeneration, is a debate that is gaining strength in Catalonia, after six years of process and at a time when the independence movement appears divided and without a defined strategy. Lliures, the new-born liberal formation led by Antoni Fernández Teixidó, has taken a step further in that direction by proposing a "Catalan front" that can be imposed on the ballot box to independence.

"We have no other way, people want a victory," said Teixidó, in a message addressed to some of the guests present at the World Trade Center auditorium, at almost the same time that Roger Torrent suspended the Parliamentary Plenary session. Especially it was directed to the secretary of the PSC organization, Salvador Illa, and the leader of Units, Jordi Cerezuela. Neither do they seem, for now, very willing to explore the formula that Lliures intends.

Also speaking were the ex-members of Catalan Parliament, Roger Muntañola, Monserrat Nebrera, the spokesman for Portes Obertes del Catalanisme, Mario Romeo, and the public notary and essayist, Juan José López Burniol, among others.

"We are a modest but important instrument to configure a Catalan alternative to independence"

"We are a modest but important instrument to configure a Catalan alternative to independence", proclaimed Texidió, at the head of a formation that brings together many people and sensibilities that had been in the old CiU and that were politically orphaned when it was put to front of the independence movement.

Teixidó has indicated that the persistence of the Government in continuing "by the revolutionary route" and confrontation with the State shows that the independentist movement "will not give up while it retains political power" and, he warned, they will do everything possible to return to place Catalonia in a limit situation "when they think it is in its interest".

For Teixidó, the image of the attempted assault on the Parlament, after Quim Torra said "push", visualizes the collapse of the Government. Also "the chaos" of the Parlament because JxCat and ERC "put the interests of the party before those of the country".

"We already said that Catalonia would move in this direction because they go hand in hand with the most radical people, and Torra is aware of that," he remarked. In this sense, he maintained that the persistence of the Government in continuing "by the revolutionary route" and of confrontation with the State shows that the independence movement "will not give up while it retains political power" and, he warned, thy will do everything possible to return to place Catalonia in a limit situation when they think it is in its interest.

"Are we to accept this? Should we accept the worse, the better? Do not count on us for this", Teixidó has warned.

In the current situation, Lliures has argued that the defeat of the independence movement must start and take place "in Catalonia and at the ballot box", and for this effort the unity of "the political forces of center Catalanism" will be essential. A convergence of parties but, he stressed, that should also have the active collaboration "civil society and elites." "We must leave the state of atomization of Catalanism, we must promote a new front that we can win," said Teixidó.

One of the doubts that has not cleared Lliures is if, in case of not prospering that front, will concur in solitary. There is speculation about the possibility of a representative being integrated into the transverse candidacy of Manuel Valls to the mayor's office. Teixidó does not exclude this possibility: "It will be seen, I respect this candidacy".
