All the contradictions of the independence movement explode this 21-D in the streets of Barcelona and throughout Catalonia. With agitation and propaganda as the only shared strategy, the Government has been playing with fire for too long. It is unlikely that you will not get scorched.
The secessionist forces do not finish to overcome the paradox that supposed to proclaim first the independence and then to concur to an autonomic elections summoned by Mariano Rajoy to the cover of the 155. It surprises that those who made of the binarism their flag -independence 'yes' or 'no', democrats in front of antidemocrats, or with me or against me ...- they did not understand something as simple as that the fulfillment of the law does not admit half measures: either it is respected or disobeyed. And accept that the King who initiates your appointment as 'president' of the Generalitat is something more than a mere formalism.
Claiming a referendum of self-determination agreed to the same State that is dismissed as authoritarian does not seem very judicious. To dismiss as "provocation" that the Government meets in Barcelona and then negotiate an appointment with Pedro Sánchez is a palpable incongruence. And encouraging mobilizations that will sow chaos while ordering the Mossos to guarantee order supposes, at least, a grave senselessness.
Knock down the regime
The 'yes' to independence would never have reached 47% of the vote without the turn of Artur Mas at the head of a party as systemic as CiU, which for decades has ruled the Generalitat, propped up central governments of all signs and placing affinities in all constitutional bodies. In spite of this, this Friday the postconvergents join a march under the slogan 'Tumbemos el régimen' ... as if this were alien to them.
The middle and working classes that nourish the ranks of the independence movement, conservative because they have a lot to preserve, are asking themselves today if their cause is the same as that of the hooded ones that prevent them from opening the store or burning containers. Neither with coercion nor with rackets will sovereignty expand its social base. Is this how they aspire to 'make a republic'?
