Catalanism, a meeting place Mario Romeo

Catalanism is topical. It appears again as a place of possible consensus for those of us who desire a strong self-government and we live with concern about what is happening in our country.Throughout these years of 'procés' many have announced the demise of Catalanism on the route to the desired Ithaca. They have reduced the options: or independence or unionism. A Manichean simplification that excites our own and anathematizes opposites, without entering into nuances that characterize the diversity of our society. Without addressing, either, the big problems and challenges that affect it.
The failure of the 'proces', not yet recognized, and the events that show the internal tensions of the independence movement, such as the practical dissolution of the PDECat in the movement of the 'expresident' Puigdemont, bring self-government to a situation of blockade. The independence movement will find new opportunities to wave flags, but the agitation is not enough to fix things.

The policy based on slogans, tweets and historical days is as spectacular as it is useless. We can continue for months installed in the rhetoric of gestures, but that will not lead to the balanced, durable and consensual solution we need.
