The Foreign Minister asks the Prime Minister to suspend "the policy of ibuprofen" before the endless demands of independentism

Josep Borrell has already shown repeatedly that he does not intend to be a silent witness to the policy pursued by Pedro Sánchez to redirect the situation with independentist Catalonia.

After transcending that the Government has agreed to incorporate into its talks with the Generalitat an extragovernmental figure to arbitrate the dialogue between both parties, the Foreign Minister has exploded because the independentists are not satisfied with that. In addition to a notary, they also want a commitment to debate the self-determination of Catalonia.

"If the progress is made to depend on impossible conditions, as has been pointed out a few hours ago, then the therapy of ibuprofen will have to be stopped," Borrell demanded during an intervention in the Senate.

Mediator, notary, witness, rapporteur or coordinator

The Government and the Generalitat have already begun to exchange names in search of an extragovernmental figure, whose work is not clear after all the professions that have been awarded: mediator, notary, witness, rapporteur and coordinator. The last is the word used by the Government.

According to the Vice President of the Government, Carmen Calvo, the presence of "someone who can take note, who can coordinate us" is necessary. The task of that someone should be "to understand well what we are talking about". And he denied that this means accepting mediation. "There is no need for mediators to be within the law, constantly practicing dialogue in democracy," said Calvo.

The policy of ibuprofen

While Calvo was pronouncing herself this way in the corridors of the Senate, Borrell assured that there will be no cessions in the matter of prisoners and in matter of self-determination. That said, he continued with his simile of ibuprofen. "There are some people who are immune to some medicines and perhaps we are facing a case of immunity to ibuprofen," he suggested to Sánchez.

In parallel, the spokesman of the PP in the Senate, Ignacio Cosidó, added a new qualification for the extragovernmental figure. "Accepting a" verifier in the negotiations is as much as recognizing that there is an international conflict, recognizing sovereignty to the other party and violating the Constitution. I say it with pain, that means betraying Spain! ", He said in the Senate, where there was a government control session.
