That's the road map: divide up insomnia. Until everyone, starting with him, we lose everything.
The new chapter of the battle between ERC and the sectors that support the leadership of Carles Puigdemont is, apparently, a mess that only legal experts can elucidate. The environment of Puigdemont maintains that his appeal before the Constitutional Court (TC) is an essential technical step in the path that expresident transits to be able to raise its case to the European judicial instances. On the other hand, the environment of ERC maintains that, to appeal to the European judges, it is enough with the resolutions of Pablo Llarena (TS) in which he dictated "prolonged legal incapacity" to the Catalan Parliamentary members submitted to judicial instruction.
Since the legal dilemma is only suitable for specialists, the discussion that Puigdemont's baroque appeal to the TC has raised will serve to fuel the fire in which ERC's moderationism burns right now.
Throwing ERC to the pyre of the impure (in which already many parties and people have burned) will serve to reinforce the light of the Crida, the new party of Puigdemont, which next Saturday 26 will celebrate its constituent congress in Barcelona.
This new party responds to a vision that Catalan nationalism has practiced since the Pujol years: divide et impera.
Fèlix Riera explains it very well: when the social and cultural forces of a territory do not find any limit, this territory is prosperous and productive in every way: it does not lose any of its energies. But as soon as a sector determines the identity of the territory and says "we are that," citizens have no choice but to position themselves.
Divide generates a formidable political dynamic, which favors whoever is the champion. But it reduces the whole. Pujol applied the divide et impera and managed to hang the owl from the treasonous branch office to the PSC.
Now the division that leaves a good part of the country out of political play also includes ERC. The republicans are pushed to the side of the impure to avoid that, through the sorpasso, they can lead the country.
Dividing with harshness, Puigdemont cuts even further the Catalan political space with the hope of regaining a leadership that the option to go to Belgium is making him lose.
Once I compared it to Ulysses, who resisted the sirens' song. Puigdemont succumbed to the song and did not call elections. The episode of the sirens is part of the sad journey of the Odyssey: years of sailor exile, death of all comrades, massacres at home to recover the throne. But in a previous Homeric chant, the Iliad, Ulysses is the cunning one who destroys Troy with the horse's trap.
Exacerbating the trap of the division is the last resort of the astute Puigdemont. You need to compensate for the eclipse that you will suffer during the trial months.
The protagonism of Junqueras, Sánchez and company will eclipse Puigdemont.
And if the sentence is foreseeable, his exile will appear golden (although - as I well know - he is not).
Appealing to a court that detests against a fellow traveler is a resource of Ulysses, the cunning one.
That's the road map: divide up insomnia. Until everyone, starting with him, we lose everything.
