More than a million people collapse Barcelona against independentism - "We all have a little bit of blame for having been too silents"

We are here because they have called us to defend coexistence, pluralism and solidarity. And it's imperative to do it. Because coexistence has been broken in this country. You have to redo it. We must defend political pluralism, because it is not recognized.

I'm up to the 'bollocks' of the Procés. Without escaping abroad, there would be hardly any provisional imprisonment. And without false republics to build there would be no risk of criminal reiteration

"Passport to Pimlico." It is already a topic that Brexit and Procés have much in common. In the causes: the great recession, the fear of the loss of identity, the damaged globalization, even the differences between the great cosmopolitan city and the deep country. In the propaganda methods: either the pious vision of the story about a radiant future, and the most cruel of the lies in abundance. And in the fatigue of the citizens before an endless struggle and without exit, that finally is a fight by the power between parties and even between protagonists.

Catalonia: two half-truths don't make one truth - Journalists and opinion-makers have a responsibility to inform and explain, not to divide and contribute to the escalation of conflict.

A biased narrative

Catalan secessionists marked the first anniversary of last year´s independence referendum by taking to the streets of Barcelona and neighbouring cities. Rallies started after the Committees for the Defense of the Republic, a radical grassroots movement, blocked roads, motorways, and train tracks across the region. In Girona, at the north, protesters trespassed a government office and replaced the Spanish flag with the Estelada. In Barcelona, protesters surrounded the headquarters of Spain´s national police and tried to break into the Catalan Parliament by the end of the day, forcing the regional police to charge and protect the premises.https://www.opendemocracy.net/can-europe-make-it/manuel-serrano/catalonia-two-half-truths-dont-make-one-truth

BBC HARDtalk 18/10/2018 Ernest Maragall -Many people believe your movement has lost momentum and has not clear strategy

To mark the one year anniversary of Catalonia's hugely controversial independence referendum, more than 150,000 Catalans took to the streets of Barcelona. Some blocked roads and rail lines and scuffled with police - it was a signal of frustration from people whose dream has been thwarted. HARDtalk's Stephen Sackur speaks to Ernest Maragall - self-styled Minister of Foreign Action in the Catalan regional government. Have the separatists reached a dead end?
