Carles Puigdemont in the federal parliament on Tuesday

The former president of Catalonia Carles Puigdemont will be Tuesday in the federal parliament and the Flemish parliament, at the invitation of members of a member of a Catalan-Flemish parliamentary assembly.

Pursued by the Spanish courts for organizing a referendum proclaiming the independence of Catalonia, considered unconstitutional, Mr. Puigdemont lives in exile in the suburbs of Brussels where he continues his political activities. Tuesday morning, Mr. Puigdemont will participate in a breakfast at the federal parliament restaurant, meeting he will discover in the wake of a guided tour. The rest of the program also provides for an "informal hearing" with a Catalan delegation to the House Foreign Affairs Committee. This point, however, does not appear on the agenda of the Commission on Tuesday. And for good reason, it will be the scene of hearings and discussions on the UN pact on migration that threatens government cohesion.

Mr Puigdemont is also heard in the Flemish Parliament where he will be received by President Jan Peumans (N-VA). A press point is planned. Nine months ago, the federal parliament had refused to allow Mr. Puigdemont to speak at a colloquium in the federal parliament.
